As part of International Women's Day, we have some words of wisdom from our female clients who have cracked that glass ceiling and made it to the top of their game. We also have personal stories from #TeamCP, sharing where we find our inspiration, while also paying homage to those who have come before us - enjoy!
"My Mother" - Yiyun Feng
Growing up, my mum has always been my greatest source of strength and inspiration. As a young woman living in 1980s China with no household registration record, she was barred from attending high school, starting work at age 15 in a factory.
As a mum, she has endeavoured to provide me with as many opportunities as possible. However, her passion for learning has never stopped – from taking certification classes to reading novels to improve her English, my mum’s drive to always achieve more has always inspired me.
My own ambitions have been distinctly shaped by mum’s life experiences – she has taught me humility, empathy and courage – but above all, she has taught me to ‘never give up’. Ever since she first shared this with me while I was crying over the piano as a ten-year-old, I have endeavoured to commit to this. To always keep trying, no matter how difficult trying is. My mum has always been there for me – placing sticky notes on my teddy bear reminding me to clean my room, walking me home from the bus stop and bringing me a jacket because I said I was cold, and always encouraging me to achieve. I will always be grateful for her role in my life – shout out to my mum on International Women’s Day, the most loving and inspirational woman I know.
